The positions of GP/District Medical Officer (DMO) provide clinical services to the hospital as well as outreach clinics in surrounding remote communities. The positions report to and are supported by the Senior Medical Officer at each site. As DMO you will be rostered to clinical duties in the Emergency Department and GP clinic of each hospital, and as DMO proceduralist you will also be rostered to a 1:3 Anaesthetic or Obstetric roster.
The Kimberley Region has a population of approx.45,000 of whom approx. 52% are indigenous. Broome has a population of 15,000 which swells to 40,000+ during the dry and is the administrative centre of the Kimberley, and home to famous Cable Beach. Derby is a port township 2,300kms north of Perth and two hours north of Broome that supports the pastoral properties along the Fitzroy River, and is a popular stopover for visitors heading in to the gorge country of the north. Kununurra is a thriving township in the Ord Valley which serves a growing population associated with agricultural activities. Halls Creek is a busy service township 2,800 kms north of Perth and on the doorstep of the heritage listed Bungle Bungles of Purnululu National Park. Fitzroy Valley is situated on the mighty Fitzroy River and the valley has beautiful scenic gorges and waterfalls. All the towns are easily accessible with regular flights to major centres within WA and Australia.
Demonstrated Emergency Medicine and General Practice skills as well as sound leadership qualities and team-work are essential for these positions. Post-graduate qualifications in anaesthetics and/or obstetrics, and demonstrated clinical skills in these disciplines, are also essential for the proceduralist DMO positions. An understanding and interest in remote and Indigenous health is very desirable. Applicants must be eligible for registration with the Australian Medical Board. REMUNERATION PACKAGE: SALARY AS PER DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS (WA COUNTRY HEALTH SERVICE) AMA INDUSTRIAL AGREEMENT 2011:
non-proceduralists from $290,906 (Year 1) to $364,594 (Year 6) per annum, proceduralists from $332,947 (Year 1) to $364,594 (Year 3) per annum, which is inclusive of professional development, professional practice entitlements and on call availability allowance. In addition, a District Allowance, 9% superannuation and a generous rent subsidy is payable. Other benefits include Salary Packaging, 6 weeks annual leave, vehicle use, and additional rural incentives for longer periods of service.
